FAQs on Fire Extinguisher Maintenance

What is the proper maintenance for a fire extinguisher?

Proper maintenance of a fire extinguisher is crucial for its effective functionality and reliability. Regular inspection, maintenance, and servicing ensure that the extinguisher is in good working condition and ready to be used in case of a fire emergency.

Here is the comprehensive report on the proper maintenance for a fire extinguisher:

  1. Inspections: Conduct monthly inspections to check the overall condition of the fire extinguisher. Ensure it is easily accessible, properly labeled, and not obstructed by any objects.
  2. Pressure Check: Verify the pressure gauge reading to ensure it is within the recommended range. If it falls outside the acceptable range, the extinguisher may need to be recharged or replaced.
  3. Physical Condition: Examine the extinguisher for any signs of damage, such as dents, corrosion, or leaks. If any issues are found, immediate action should be taken, including repairs or replacing the extinguisher.
  4. Tamper Seals: Ensure the tamper seals are intact. Broken or missing seals may indicate improper use or tampering, and the extinguisher should be inspected more thoroughly.
  5. Operating Instructions: Review the operating instructions and verify that they are legible and easily understandable. Replace any damaged or unreadable labels.
  6. Recharging and Servicing: Regularly schedule professional maintenance and servicing of fire extinguishers. This includes recharging, internal inspections, and testing to ensure optimal performance.
  7. Training and Education: Educate yourself and others on how to properly use a fire extinguisher. Training should cover the appropriate type of extinguisher for different fire classes and the correct technique for extinguishing fires.

Remember, proper maintenance and regular inspections are essential to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of fire extinguishers.
